Blog of the Week - Albert Mohler
I know that it has been a while since I posted a blog of the week, so maybe I should change the name! Anyway, I thought that it would be a good time to mention the blog that Albert Mohler, President of Southern Seminary, writes to update on current issues facing culture and the church. I enjoy reading the blog because he addresses things with a Christian perspective. It is important for the church to view current events through a Christian worldview based on the Scripture instead of just taking news with the media's spin on it. His views on culture are very conservative, and I agree with him most of the time. I suggest reading this blog in order to see the greater implications of news stories that we may see and pay little attention to.
Library Card
I feel like a kid or a mom because I am now a proud owner of a Texarkana Library card. I thought that this might help to lessen some of my purchases of books until I browsed the selection at our library and realized that I will still be continuing in my book addiction. I broke down to obtain a library card when I realized that a library in a neighboring city had a book that we need for a case at work. Since ILL is cheaper than purchasing the book brand new, I had to break down and obtain a library card. At least I was able to count the time obtaining the card towards billable hours (although I did take out the time I spent looking for Jane Austen books, of which our library only had two -- tells you a little about the selection). At least now I will be able to obtain some of my biography and fiction selections from the local library instead of buying them. Too bad that does not account for the majority of the money I spend on books!

Quote
I receive a Quote of the Day on my RSS feeder, and today's quote seems to be what so many in the world believe on the matter of truth:
"Believe those who are seeking the truth. Doubt those who find it." Andre Gide
The world does not value absolute truth anymore, just those who are seeking the truth. Of course Gide had to put in there "Doubt those who find it" because, as a Christian, I have knowledge of the absolute truth (although not perfect knowledge yet). I bet that Gide would not believe that Christianity has found absolute truth in Jesus Christ. He would be blind to the fact that absolute truth has been found in Jesus Christ. The world seeks after something that it isn't even sure exists, and can't see when it is presented to them.
I do hope that there are people who are actively seeking Truth, and we need to pray that the Holy Spirit will open their eyes to the Truth once they encounter Him. Those who find the absolute Truth need to be bold to proclaim that it is truth in a world that is unwilling to believe that anyone can have knowledge of absolute truth.

Bad News Bears! (but maybe good news?!)
Well, the Baylor basketball teams both made an early exit from the Big 12 tournaments. The boys put up a fight, and the girls seem to have decided to coast on their laurels instead of fighting. Maybe the boys made enough of an impression to go to the NCAA.
**Update: The boys did make it to the Tourney as did the girls, so at least we will get to see one post-season game from each. Sic 'em bears!!

Books
I like books. Lots of books. I buy books all the time. I have been really good and not bought any new books since the end of December/beginning of January. That ended today. I bought three more books (although I won't get them until around the end of April - yes, I pre-ordered new books). Maybe by then I will finish reading some of the unread books I have already bought. I am working on it!! Right now I am reading Pierced for Our Transgressions: Rediscovering the Glory of Penal Substitution, and it is great. Hopefully I will finish it soon and be able to review it on here.

New Mortal Sins
It is days like today that I am proud to be a Protestant. I am proud to follow God instead of a pope. I am proud that I can live my life according to the Bible instead of a church leader's determination of right and wrong. I guess that the pope reevaluates the list of mortal sins periodically, and adds to it where he sees fit. Now, last time I checked, all sin was "mortal" meaning leading to death. I know that the Catholics believe that some sins must be confessed prior to death or bad things will happen, but I am not going to pretend to be an expert on the subject. Personally, I thought that there were still seven deadly sins that the Catholic church believed in. Now the pope has added polluting the earth and genetic manipulation to the list of deadly sins. I guess if you are in an ambulance being taken to the hospital dying of whatever, you need to confess that before dying because but for your illness, the ambulance would not be polluting. I don't have as much of a problem with the genetic manipulation thing, although I think it is silly to update the mortal sins. I am glad that I believe in a God of grace who does not require the work of confession, but uses our faithfulness to confess to lead to sanctification. Sola scriptura!

The Weather
We are having weird weather here in T-town. On Monday I drove to Court with the tornado sirens blaring. My co-worker Cory drove to court before me in the midst of the more serious weather, and I am thankful that he tested the roads before I did! Wednesday the temperature was up to 70 degrees by the middle of the day. It rained all day yesterday. Today it is snowing - hard - and lots - and doesn't look like it is ending anytime soon. I woke up to rain, and within an hour, there was 1/2 an inch of snow on the ground. Now I want to curl up in the covers on the couch or in bed reading good books and sipping on hot drinks like hot cocoa or coffee. But I am at work. No snow days for lawyers! :)
